Life Skills

Building the skills to live the life you want.

What is Life Skills?

Life skills development is about building your capacity to do more for yourself over time. Our support workers and allied health partners work with you to identify the skills you want to develop and create a plan to get there.

Life skills supports can cover a huge range of areas — from cooking and budgeting to using public transport, managing your health, building social skills or preparing for employment. We tailor the program to your goals and your pace.

Together in Motion Services takes a strengths-based approach to life skills — we start from what you can already do and build from there, celebrating every step forward.

What could this support look like?

Every person's support is different. Here is a realistic example of what a day with Together in Motion Services might look like.

Skill session

You and your support worker work on a specific skill together — cooking a new recipe, practising a bus route, working through a budget, or building a social skill you have been developing.

Real-world practice

Skills are practised in real situations — at the supermarket, on public transport, in a café or at home. Learning by doing is the most effective approach.

Reflection and planning

At the end of each session, you reflect on what went well and what to work on next. Your support worker celebrates your progress and helps you plan the next step.

Your choice and control

You set the goals. We build the program around what you want to achieve — not what we think you should learn. Sessions happen at your pace, in real-life settings you choose, and we adjust as your skills and confidence grow.

How is the support personalised?

We start with your goals — what do you want to be able to do independently? We then build a structured program around those goals, working at your pace and adjusting as you progress. We take a strengths-based approach, building on what you can already do.
